Wow oh wow, I can't believe this. I got a call from the mines yesterday afternoon. Heard the words that every coal miner's wife does not want to hear. "Rockfall" and "Hospital". Jeremy was taken to the hospital yesterday because he was hit by a 3'x 3'x 3" thick piece of slate from the top. He's alright thank goodness just a sprained foot and a sore knee. The story I got from the safety director was that if Jeremy's boss didn't grab him and pull him I would have became a widow yesterday. Jeremy and his boss were working on a miner and they heard a bang like a shotgun had gone off. The next thing they knew was the top was coming down. The only thing they couldn't get out of the way was Jeremy's foot. It's a little bruised on the outside but THANK GOD FOR METAL TORSELS!! If you know anyone that works underground please stress how valuable these are. If Jeremy wasn't wearing boots with them he would have had to had recontructive surgery on his foot. Of course wouldn't you know it's the same side of his hernia. Poor guy can not catch a break. Now we're back to the pain killers.
It's scary to think that I almost lost my husband yesterday, but I really can't let myself think about it to much. It really hasn't sunk in yet. I can't let it or I'll never allow him back into the mines!! Jeremy always told me that it wasn't when you got hurt but it was how bad you got hurt. So far we've been extremely lucky as far as the severity of his accidents. He's still alive! This one could have been so much worse. The whole thing fell in from side to side.
Took him to the doctor today and he put him on light duty and a bunch of restrictions. Jeremy is just itching to get back underground, or at least today he was. Last night, not so much.
**Our break is coming I know it is. It has to. I have an appointment with my doc to check a couple of lumps on my breast. One lump has been there for about 4 months and this other one I just found the other day. They're side by side. I'm going into this appointment thinking that he is going to tell me I'm crazy and healthy. I have to be, I can't handle anything less than a clean bill of health.
**Why can't we catch a break? Even if its just a little one? I'm not asking for much but a longer period of time where I'm not completely stressed about health, safety, or family issues. Is that too much to ask?
**It's after 11pm so I'm going to sleep finally!
